Sarah Bertrand Atkinson, a Splendora native, is a self taught cake artist and owner of Fool for Cake, a cottage style bakery where she pursues her passion of cake artistry. The childhood best friend of Ruby Surls, Sarah has been supporting Splendora Gardens in a variety of ways for many years. As a Splendora native she is excited to see the improvements offered by Splendora Gardens with the community. Currently, she is fulfilling the role of Executive Administrator, maintaining order on the administrative side of the art world in Splendora Gardens.
Sarah’s passion for baking include partnering with Icing Smiles, a charity providing cakes to children suffering from injuries, or life long disabilities. Sarah has answered two calls to action to fulfill the requests of children in the form of creating their dream birthday cakes. In addition, she has won awards with her amazing cake skills, including in an international cake contest where she took grand prize. Being an artist in cake decorating and baking, she supports the arts in all forms, and is enthusiastic about working with an arts organization like Splendora Gardens. When she’s not making cakes, Sarah partners with her Mom to enter Splendora’s Founder’s Day Parade every year with a parade float. She and her mom are passionate about encouraging creativity in the community, and it shows, as they have entered for 8 years & taken home 12 first place trophies. Another way for her to express her artistic interests and interact with the community while boosting the love of arts in general.
Sarah is the wife of 20 years to Kris Atkinson, a network Engineer for IBM and the mother to 2 beautiful, smart, wonderful daughters. Sarah is a Girl Scout troop leader and Cookie mom for her girls troop, celebrating her 10th year in the Girl Scout Program next year. The Girl Scout Program gives Sarah the opportunity to share her interest in the arts with the girls in our community, and she loves partnering with Splendora Gardens for various badge workshops and learning experiences.
